No-Gi Jiu Jitsu Classes at The Cellar

About Submission Grappling / No-Gi Jiu Jitsu

No-Gi Grappling or Submission Grappling combines several grappling styles including: Wrestling, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and Sambo.   Unlike traditional Brazilian Jiu Jitsu which uses a Gi to gain control, hold and choke an opponent, participants of No-Gi Jiu Jitsu train in shorts and t-shirt/compression shirt.

Students must learn techniques to control their opponent and force them to “submit” or “tap-out” by using the bodies “natural” handles such as the neck, arms and legs. The sport has also become a large part of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) training as the holds and grips are the same as those used in the cage. No-Gi Jiu Jitsu is an excellent form of Self-Defense training as it teaches students to use leverage and proper technique to avoid a larger opponent on the ground.
