Patrick Kelly is an assistant Youth Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Instructor at The Cellar Gym.
Patrick started training (no-gi) Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in 2009 when a friend took him to a local gym. The strategic and physical demands of the sport kept him coming back, he has since competed in local tournaments as well as Mixed Martial Arts and Muay Thai Kickboxing. Patrick transitioned to the Gi in 2016 and is currently a brown belt under Mauricio Carra. He is content with teaching the foundations of BJJ to children because he knows by experience that BJJ is a humbling sport and anyone who trains in the discipline will develop lifelong values and friendships.
Patrick’s teaching style is very straightforward and to the point. He is more concerned with the principles involving correct movement and posture rather separate techniques.
Teaching Style: Patrick enjoys exercising outside the gym as well, and he is a full-time student at the University of Minnesota, where he is studying Linguistics and computer science
Quote: “Nothing will give you a better workout than another person, and when you’re exhausted to the point of surrender, you will find out more about yourself than any DNA test or palm reading could ever provide you because this is your present sate, living and breathing self and for a short time, all that’s important is right in front of you.”
