Maximus XI

Four of our fighters traveled to Aurora, Illinois on April 20th to represent The Cellar Gym at Maximus XI. Sam Bailey won his fight to secure a Maximus title. Sammy Feahn won his MMA debut, and Gabe Pesch also took the victory in an exciting Muay Thai matchup. Jamir Anderson stepped up short notice to make his Muay Thai debut, but fell a bit short.

Gabe landed strong low kicks, knees, and head-snapping jabs throughout the fight. It was a fantastic back and forth battle with both fighters having their moments, but Gabe pushed through to get the judges’ nod. Congratulations!

Sammy went to war in his MMA debut! The first round was intense as both fighters wobbled each other several times. Sammy likely lost the first round, but it was close. He recovered, listening closely during the break, and came out sharp in the second round. He landed several shots while controlling distance and avoiding his opponent’s strikes. Sammy threw a beautiful combination that put his opponent down hard, securing the win by knockout.

Sam Bailey wanted to control the pace of his fight, but his opponent had a dangerous combination of speed and power in his hands. It was a great chess match and both fighters had their moments, but Sam scored a knockdown in the first round with a sneaky punch as he escaped the ropes. In the fourth round, Sam landed a head kick that sent his opponent to the canvas. He was able to beat the count, but didn’t recover fully, causing the referee to stop the fight. Sam secured the Maximus belt by TKO.

Jamir had a good first round, finding his range and landing long punches and teeps. He also landed some piercing knees in the clinch. Early in the second round, he was clipped and dropped with a clean punch. He beat the count, but wasn’t fully recovered, and the referee stopped the contest shortly after, with Jamir losing by TKO in the second round. It’s a tough loss, but on only 8-days notice, Jamir proved he’s a warrior and will gain much from this experience. Keep an eye on this young and talented fighter!
